For two decades Blancpain has always created a timepiece for Valentine’s Day and this time, the inspiration comes from the Ladybird Colors line. This special edition comes with a red color palette, heart motifs, and diamonds. They have a different theme every time and have ranged from a bold heart-shaped case in 2009 to the recent designs occupying one alluring trait.
This time, it is red all over and the dial is the talking point here with a variety of mother-of-pearl features with red Roman numerals that require five separate applications of color. All the Ladybird Colors dials have a gold ring at 6 o’clock, set by hand with graduated diamonds. For the Valentine’s edition, the lower portion of the diamond set ring has been given the shape of a heart. There is also a Cupid’s arrow that adds to Valentine’s theme as it forms the large second hand, carrying a small red heart and a feather-shaped counterweight. The movement is an 1153 automatic winding caliber and two mainspring barrels have a four-day power reserve.
The 34.9 mm case meanwhile is decked in white gold with hand-set diamonds upon the bezel and lugs plus there are more than 2 carats of diamonds being added on the bezel, lugs, dial, and buckle.
The craftsmanship is woven very well with the bold colors but is also tastefully done and shows restraint yet is drenched in pomp and glamour. It is one of the best ladies’ watches and maintains the tradition that Blancpain has been following for the past few years. The design is not as radical as some of their past examples but is elegant nevertheless.
This special edition Valentine’s Day 2024 is limited to only 99 examples and is a perfect gift for Valentine’s Day for sure.
